Schneider 210MM HM - Any Experiences / Image Examples

Not much information floating out there about this lens from 8x10 users. A lot of threads list as a lens that covers 8x10 but not much in the form of real world users and definitely hard to find image samples. Figured I'd reach out and see if we could keep the thread to this lens alone, I know there are small and lighter lenses that do the trick.

I borrowed a Schneider 210mm HM from a friend just to take a shot and compare to my Apo Sironar S 210/5,6. in a 5x7 shot. The Schneider has a wider image circle, but I was unable to stablish any diferences in image quality. Both lenses have superb sharpness and contrast. If you want IC, pick the Schneider, if not, the Rodenstock will serve you perfectly. The Schneider is a huge beast, and the Rodenstock is smaller and 72mm filter.

That's the issue with the SS-HM. The apples-to-apples comparison is with the 210 Apo-Sironar(-W), as both are specified as offering 80 degrees of coverage. But the SS-HM weighs 1510g in shutter, the Apo-Sironar(-W) 950g or so (#3 shutter in both cases). That's more than a pound's difference for what looks like the same specification. Not such an issue in the studio, but if you want to carry it in the field...

That said, I too would be curious to hear from any users.

The comparison would be to the Apo Sironar W, not the S.
Originally the Apo Sironar W was just the 150, 210 and 300mm Apo Sironar.
Those lenses covered 80°, the S covered 75°.

I took this 8x10 by using the 210 HM, a very sharp lens but very heavy.

You´re right Bob and Oren, the right comparision would be with the Apo Sironar W, but I was curious about the SK 210 HM and how did it compare with my Apo Sironar, and that´s the comparision I did. I never used the Apo Sironar W 210/5,6, but I own the Apo Sironar W 150/5,6 and I´m extremely pleased with it. This tiny gem allows me to use it as a moderate wide in 5x7.

But you are phrasing it incorrectly. The Apo Sironar is the W. Not the S or the N.

Rodenstock introduced the Apo Sironar 150, 210 and 300mm.

After that introduction, a year or two later, Rodenstock introduced the Apo Sironar S and the Apo Sironar N. When those two lines were introduced they then changed the name of the Apo Sironar to Apo Sironar W.

So when one says that they have an Apo Sironar they are talking about the Apo Sironar W.

Understood, that makes perfect sense. I use my 150 W the same way, as part of an ultralight 5x7 outfit built around a Nagaoka, and I too am delighted to have it.
