I really didn't need the Astronomical Almanac for navigation, of course. I once ordered full-precision planet and moon ephemeris from the US Naval Observatory that came on a big magnetic tape. But the coordinate data was referenced in the Terrestrial Dynamic Time (TDT) scale. So I had to dive into the astronomical end to learn about all the different time scales, how to use and where to find the data to convert between some of them.
In about 1995, I crewed for a friend across the English Channel using a GPS "hockey puck", and I haven't taken a sextant along since. I still have a Japanese Tamaya, which I take out about once a year to see if I remember how to use it. Just checked, and the Nautical Almanac is still published annually. The U.S. Naval version is only available in hard cover, but the U.K. Admiralty version is also in e-book. I've always seen the Almanac as a very cool book. I'm tempted

For those who might be interested, the Nautical Almanac is the book in the lower left of Tuco's photo, post #526. It contains data for the sun, the moon, the visible planets and a select group of stars. This data is used with a sextant, the time of day and some simple arithmetic to determine your location on Earth. Quite a magical process that also makes one appreciate how amazing GPS is.

Different kind of navigation, and I haven't used it, but that Royal Astronomical Society of Canada book is said to be superb.

    Keith/Tin Can,
It was in a bunch of other lenses I purchased. It is by no means a beauty, with cleaning marks and haze. I'm working on my c41 at home process and thought "why not give this thing a whirl". I'm sure someone will enjoy it-I just have too many projects. One of the reasons I love having a speed graphic around-just about anything can be slapped on the front!

Great tonal scale, selective focus and probably: reciprocity factor? I should use my Delta100’s more often indeed.
