Access to classified sections for new members

I am wondering if there is any mechanism available to new members that would expedite access to the classified section. I respect the role that the 30 day probationary period plays in preventing spam and other nefarious actors from utilizing this resource. I also think it would be possible to achieve this outcome in a way that provide upstanding members of society access to this resource. In my case, I am trying to conduct market research into the value of a particular large format camera before I purchase it. This camera (a Wehman) is relatively uncommon and ebay and other markets do not have any data.

Perhaps allowing viewing of existing threads without allowing posting or replies would suffice? Or perhaps a if someone were to be able to demonstrate that they are a publicly accountable professional with avenues for recourse, that would also mitigate any risk to this community?

    Thanks for your consideration.

    If you’re lucky, you’ll live to 90. What’s 30 days? :-)

Would make sense to allow access while restricting listing "for sale" items. Some have signed up for the opportunity to look for gear. Why restrict them?

Among other things, the 30-day waiting period allows the new member to participate in discussions, which allows others to determine whether they want to do business with them.

Oren is the most active moderator, but policies are determined by a consensus between the three of us, plus the owner, when appropriate.

They haven't been offered here very often either. Its a thin market, so prices should be very dispersed. Also, since there are sometimes long-term trends with, alas, a lot of scatter old sales aren't particularly informative about current prices.

If you want one and can afford the one you've found, you're probably better off buying it than waiting for a less expensive one to turn up. Understand, under sod's law if you buy it one will turn up the next day at half the price and if you don't buy and someone else snags it another will come to market the next day at twice the price. In short, whatever you do will be wrong.
