Heliar in Compound shutter on Linhof Lens Board - Need help

    Hello,

Any idea how to get the Heliar 240mm in Compound (4?) on a Linhof lens board (new Master Technika) - Copal 3 lens board?. Lens dates from something between 1937-1942.

Do i have to open the shutter?

    Any help / suggestion?

Make sure the hole in the lens board is large enough.
Attach the retaining ring to the front of the lens board using screws.
Screw the lens into the retaining ring.

I had my local machine shop make a threaded "flange" that was bolted to a Technika board
Gosh, I wish anyone who does that again takes the opportunity to make several of them. Set-up is most of the cost.

Thank you very much for your answer, you solution looks quite sophisticated. I wonder if i can get the off the big-round-something on the backside off shutter/lens without opening the shutter compartment.
Do you know what that 'big-round-something' on the back is good for and how to get it off?

The big round thing is the lens flange that mounts to the lens board. You might not have to remove it if you plan to use the lens on a different lens board - use the lens board shown in photo #2 as a pattern to mark the holes in the new lens board.

To answer your question, turn the flange counter-clockwise to remove it. If it does not budge, then we can address the issue of a stuck flange.

No need to get that fancy; I wanted to illustrate how using a flange (or retaining ring) on the front of the lens board can answer your question.
Technika boards are small, but I've mounted Ilex 5 shutters on them, you just have to think backwards sometimes.
Jac is right; unscrew the flange, then see if you might be able to affix it to your lens board.

Hmmm. A few years back I bought the same lens/shutter to use on my 4x5 Chamonix. Got it on the lensboard but did not have enough clearance to seat in the front standard. So I needed to do a little rigging. It's a heavy lens and when racked out, I am very careful.

Thanks to all for your comments.
At last, i followed your advice (Jac and Ari) since i wasn't able to remove the flange and put it on another lens board (see pictures).
Not very sophisticated (actually a bit bricolage), but it works quite fine! Some pictures shot with the lens will follow …

    Cheers,
