'Made in Japan' Rodenstock Apo-Gerogon lenses

I've seen a few Rodenstock Apo-Gerogon lenses for sale over the years that prominently state 'Made in Japan' on the barrel - and I think I've seen a few other Rodenstock graphic arts lenses so emblazoned. Were they assembled in Japan to get round specific taxation/ tariffs on graphics arts industry equipment - or for other reasons? Have never seen any evidence that they're anything other than identical to the German made lenses. Any insights into this would be most welcome!

The shutter was marked “Made in Japan”, the lenses were marked “Made in Germany.”

That's the confounding thing - they're barrel lenses, not in Copal shutters. The lettering on the barrel seems to read (for example): RODENSTOCK Apo-Gerogon 1:9 f=240mm MADE IN JAPAN [serial number] - as opposed to the Made in Germany ones, where 'Lens made in Germany' is on the rear of the aperture control barrel, inboard of the mounting threads.

In barrel only, they seem to have often been private labeled for sale bundled with cheap "stat cameras", as copy lenses, as well as for sake of "student grade" enlarging lenses. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of them were outsourced: but I can't affirm anything of that nature specifically. Since some of those lines of distribution did not go through Rodenstock itself, but a secondary market in full package unit form, it might be a little more complicated than Bob's immediate experience.

What Apo-Gerogon lenses was mounted in shutters?
My impression is these don't fit as opposed to G-Claron.

    None, didn’t fit shutters.
