    Thad...your granite photo - the way the layering works with the light...has an almost "metallic" feel, which for me evokes more of what I was actually after in my own image (see below), but I don't feel I've quite yet succeeded. Its close, but not quite there (the negative, however, is gorgeous!). At any rate...many thanks for giving me a kick in the pants - and I'll get back to work on this one:

    John, I think I used a #16 orange filter and I waited for the sun to come up to be diffused through some light clouds. Then, lost the clouds and took a few more photos of rocks nearby. But, haven't been as happy with the other photos, mostly because of bad composition on my part.
