The "maker" isn't very suitable for google searching as RIESE in German mean travel/journey!
The engraving looks a lot like Goerz and C.E.RIESE fills exactly the same space in the ring engraving as C.P.GEORZ!
LATER:
Not to cover up my mistake - but if you don't read further in the thread - RIESE is Giant. It is REISE which is journey/travel.
Dear Steven,
small correction on this. The translation for travel/journey is REISE, just putting the E and the I the other way around. Also the word RIESE has a meaning, it describes a giant.
However in this context I guess it is only the name of the manufacturer.
Best regards from Hamburg
André
Sorry, I am very careless with ie and ei - a minor word blindness complaint, that effects my written english as well.
You would think I would have learned it by now as I own a considerable number of reisekameras!!
I have a Riese 180mm Dagor that is indistinguishable from my Goerz Berlin Dagor (comparing reflections side-by-side).
C.E. Riese was a very small lens mfg in Berlin in the 1890's to 1920's. He provided amongst other mfg. lenses for Ernemann cameras.
Their address was Tempelhofer Strasse 8 in Berlin-Schöneberg
