Well, US 52 up to Huntington always left me feeling a little under-gunned, but as a whole I agree. FWIW, I always regret not fishing the Cranberry Wilderness a bit more--I haven't seen peaty water like that this side of Wales...you could probably tan hides with it straight from the stream.

Now that's what I call making a virtue out necessity. (Speaking as one who's spent an inordinate amount of time--and incurred more than a few falls--trying to find a window through or over the riparian vegetation in this part of the world.)

Sad thing is in WV a lot of what you refer to peaty water is actually abandoned mine runoff and is a big problem for the water in the entire state. I am BTW a GIGANTIC fan of the state of WV being only 30 mile from the boarder and having a second home for quite a while in Oakland Md and that home was less then a 1/2 a mile from the boarder of WV. But MANY streams in the area have the peaty color but again it's NOT vegetable matter causing the brownish red color but a abandoned coalmine leaching into the streams and waterways.

Andrew I must say I have really been enjoying your many recent posting of your images. Keep em coming as they are fairly familiar to my travels and love of this part of the world.

Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't let James Wright weigh-in about West Virginia:

For the river at Wheeling, West Virginia,
    Has only two shores:
The one in hell, the other
    In Bridgeport, Ohio.

AND +1 FROM ME TOO, Andrew/Andy - this is my type of an image, part soft/out of focus the other sharp - this imho is what View Cameras artistically/creatively were designed for

My favorite local area in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Washington State. Photo made in 1971, Sinar Norma on my first trip with the new camera, before I started keeping notes of the photo details. The original photo is an Ektachrome E3 process, but I wanted to make a b&w print later, so I copied the 4x5 original on a Macbeth lightbox of correct color balance to get a Polaroid PN55 negative and enlarged it to a 16x20 print. It held up very well at that size.
