An old negative never printed before. 1999, I think. The East face of Shiprock. Printed it large on 20X24 and resisted making it too contrasty. Nice print. Deardorff 5X7 with a 210 Symar. The little white mark in the center is where some Ravens were nesting. In the print, you can see a raven sitting there. They were flying in and out and croaking away. I had to climb out to the end of the pulpit area, up and turn around and look back. Sporty.

This area of Shiprock is gorgeous in afternoon shade, full of incredible shapes and textures....but where to start and stop? Plus it's further away than you might think and there just aren't any level places in San Juan County.

    Crash10,

Excellent image of the abandoned farmhouse. Everything in it contributes to the mood of desolation, and I include the power and telephone poles that mimic crosses in an old graveyard.

Shiprock just after sunrise, in 1998. Never printed until last weekend.

Looking West off the saddle between Shiprock and the North Buttress, (The Tugboat, to climbers). Just after sunrise. Never printed this neg until last week. Late 90s. Deardorff 5X7 and 210 Symar. Hope to be back there late May and want to climb that route and then go UP behind the White Tower on the North end. Looks like there is a pretty good slot back there...but fairly sporty area.

This has been a puzzle for 40 years...South Dike at Shiprock. I've shot up and down it a lot and tried to get something out of this crack in the corner as recently as last year. I was looking at negatives last week and got to cropping around on some much larger views....maybe I need to just work the crack, a little sky, a little talus slope. Morning sunlight.

When you face this area there are three distinct features- this crack, a big "eye" shape in the middle and a house shaped crack on the right. There is a big boulder in the fallen area that is great to shoot from giving you a little elevation. I thought about going wide and shooting all three in one shot. And you gotta pick your light. Morning comes roaring in, Late has a glare over the top. I took a 450mm Nikon in there last trip and tried to get just the corner crack, no sky. Too much wind. Camera movement.

    Great place.

Been struggling with this sparse scene for years and just don't know how to handle it. Somehow I need to capture the desolation plus the warmth of the low bush blueberries in fall color. I like the contrast. This image along the Pineo ridge north of Cherryfield ME. The ridge is the end of a glacial moraine deposited under sea during a retreat of the continental icecap about 10,000 years ago. Glacial erratic boulders are scattered along the top of the ridge.

TK45S with a 75 mm Nikon W. Fuji Astia 100 Quickload. Maybe 7.5 degree rear tilt. Heavy clouds so about 1 sec. at f/32. Praus development. V750 scanned and PS adjusted. Image Oct. 2012.

Is that an invitation for critique/suggestions?
