    Re: Linhof Serial Numbers

    Dear Bob,

I recently bought a 13x18 Technika which has been fitted with a Gandolfi black-and-chrome 1/2 plate back, rather than the standard Linhof ground-glass and folding hood. I know the Technika 11's were available with a Kodak back as an alternative (as shewn in the leaflet on the Camera eccentric site http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/info/linhof_1.html) so I wonder if here in the UK the factory had a silmilar arrangement with Gandolfi?

The serial number is 13251. There is no swing on the front, but it does have the usual rising, cross and back-tilt movements. There is the patent swing back. Would this make it a Technika 1 from between 1934 and 1936 then?

Any infomation you have would be most welcome.

    Best wishes,

    Susie

Not a, if it was made before or during the war there are no serial number lists. It sounds like it was.

Hi again Bob and thanks for your reply. I'm a bit confused as the camera was sold to me as a Technika IV and the #84721 serial number is from the hot shoe. I had been looking at Cameraquest and they say the Technika III (version V) ceased production in 1955 and the final serial number was #62235. They go on to say that the Technika IV started with #62501 and I assumed that mine would be a later model. I'm surprised that it comes out as 1950.
More confusion arises because they say that from #70500 onwards the top of the RF housing is flush with the top of the body but mine is not. It sits above the top of the body.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated.

I never look at Cameraquest so I can't care what errors they have on their site.

Serial numbers 81000 to 90595 were for a 69 IV, without rangefinder, made from 9/46 to 10/62.
