does the nikkor 90mm sw f8 lens fit inside a crown/speed graphic

Hi all,

I wondered whether the Nikkor 90mm sw f8 is small enough that you can fit it on Crown or Speed Graphic and close up the camera, obviously with no cramming. Has anyone here actually put this lens on a Speed or Crown and closed the front door?

Sorry but, no. The 4x5 crown graphic will not close with a 90mm f/8 Nikon mounted. The similar Schneider Super Angulon and Rodenstock Grandagon lenses do not work either.

I can confirm that. It's just way too deep. Any 90 with a similar design is not going to fit in there with it closed up. Maybe if you took the rear element off...

What, in anyone's experience, is the best performing 90mm that CAN fit inside a closed Crown/Speed Graphic. Don't care too much about movements.

Stopped down to f:22-32 I can't tell any difference in sharpness/contrast between my old (plain) Angulon, and a Super Angulon.

I agree with Bill, if you get a good 90mm Angulon at f22 it's as good as any modern lens and very small and light.

There's plenty of posts on what to look for with these lenses.

I suggest a 90 mm Angulon, try for one with a later serial number in the 6,500,000+ range or at least make sure you can test one older than that before you buy it.

Alternatively, a 100mm Wide Field Ektar is a fine lens without the quality control issues of the Angulon
