Horseman Model 3 rotary film back -- needs a dark slide?

    Hi,

I've been looking for a Horseman Model 3 rotary roll-film back and several I've noticed don't have the dark slide. Isn't the slide necessary for the film-back operation? Without a dark slide is it possible to change film in the field? I'm assuming there is no light leak when the film back itself is rotated away from the ground glass, but it seem strange that a dark slide is supplied by the manufacturer and discarded by users.

    Thanks in advance,
    BAB

If I understand the question...the roll film back will have a dark slide not the rotating back. In use you open the lens to focus etc. with the ground glass in place, then close the lens and then rotate the film into place. To change the film back you insert it's dark slide.

At least that's how the rotary back I have, Horseman, but not sure which model, works.

Hope this helps, if not, maybe restating the question might help.

Yes, that's what I meant. It's the roll film back that doesn't have the dark slide. I've been told these will work without the dark slide, but I seriously doubt it. Would you have knowledge of using the rotating roll-film back without the dark slide?

    Thank you,

Type 1, 2 and 3 are all similar but they attach to different cameras. All three of them have a build in 'exposure prevention' device so you don't need to insert the dark slide in the rollfilm holder when you rotate it out of the way to use the ground glass.

That was what I was trying to convey but ic-racer said it better. It should be easy to order a replacement from the manufacturer of the roll film holder.
