My pictures (Paul McEvoy)

Hey,

Is it ok to have a thread of your own pictures? I'm not sure why it wouldn't be, but no one seems to. I would actually love to see a number of people here have threads of their own work. So, let me be the first. If for whatever reason this is frowned upon, moderators, delete away.

I had a nice little bump this week from the PRC (Photographic Resource Center) here in Boston. I was their featured photographer for their online NEO gallery in November. They did a really nice job putting this page together and said some very nice things. I have a pretty thin resume for exhibitions at this point, but it was a nice shot in the arm.

Here's two images I shot recently. Both on TMY-2 4x5 in XTOL. This is part of a series I'm working on of members of "radical street bands". They come to Boston every year for a big festival called Honkfest. Anyway, thanks for looking.

I like. An extreme close up face shot of the fellow with the tuba would be interesting. He has a look.

Paul, I love your band portraits. You have a great series going here. What's especially good is that you obviously have rapport with the musicians, and that they are having a good time while you're photographing them.

Portland has a couple of bands like this. I think they're great. People who spend years playing in brass bands shouldn't put their instruments in a closet once high school or college is over.

First of all what a great idea for a new thread ! And it should have been obvious to us.
Secondly, I really enjoyed looking at your fantastic images. You have established such a connection with each person that I feel you must know them all personally or something. Just great portraiture.

Thanks guys for the comments and for allowing my little ego trip. George, you made my day in that both these portraits are of people I'd met approx 4 minutes before I took the picture. Part I think is that LF portraiture can be magic if you work it right, for a variety of reason (people don't know what to make of the camera, sense a kind of gravity to the situation and are just not doing the picture face) and part of it is that I really boss people around to get what I want. Anyway, thanks.

BTW I screwed up. The first picture above is 5x7 on HP5. The 2nd picture is 4x5 on TMY-2. I probably will end up sticking with the HP5 at some point just because I can shoot 5x7 and 4x5 with it, but I do like the TMY-2 for shooting at ISO 400.
