    XRay Scanner for 14x17

I'm wondering if there is an option to use an X-Ray scanner for scanning 14x17 sheet film. Anyone doing this? Is it a good option for scanning since 14x17 is a standard size for X-Rays and most scanners dont come bigger then 12"....

I believe the optical resolution of the larger X-ray scanners is in the 300-600 dpi range. This may be sufficient for your application. Density is good for the files I've seen, but that is now quite a few years back. Most of these scanners work by pulling the sheet over a stationary line array, at least, the ones I've seen. As for flatbed scanners, the largest one I played with is 12.2" x 17.2". Anything larger are low resolution document scanners, up to a few feet wide and poor Dmax ...

    somthing like this:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LUMISYS-LUMI...item3376fe12e2

    * Laser film digitizer capable of digitizing films up to 14"x17" in size
    * Precision instrument designed to scan film and directly measure optical density over a wide dynamic range with a high-signal to noise ratio
    * Spot of light derived Helium-Neon laser is scanned across film plane as film is moved perpendicular to laser scan
    * Can digitize up to 4096 pixels over a film width of 14"
    * Light collection system permits collection angles of over 150º degrees at each point
