    Very tall tripod?

    Hi
I'm curious if there are tripods available that go well beyond normal ones, and seem to recall some mentioned of such an equipment here (from long time ago)

So does any of you know if tripods reaching some 4m or more are available? And where?

(the search engine didn't give me much, mostly discussion threads on what options there were for tall people. Perhaps a user error...)

    Regards

That thing is just silly. Can you imagine how easily that thing must wobble while you're on it? I'd rather have a ladder. It's very easy to make a camera mount to go on top of a ladder and the flat steps won't put your feet to sleep while you make your picture.

With 10 leg sections, I'm surprised the bottom ones aren't noticeably longer than the top ones. A Gitzo GT5562GTS will reach 2.8m at $1500 and only weighs 3.6kg. It is hard to see when it would be better than either a Gitzo or a ladder, especially when both could be bought together for fewer dollars.

The choice I made, and it's not right for everybody, was to buy an aluminum gitzo giant studex for around $200. Mine with a head weighs 16lbs and can give me a lens height of about 12 feet. It will hold anything. I can do pullups under it. I'll carry the weight for the monetary savings. If I need a ladder, I'm probably not going that far.

If budget is an issue, the old Bogen/Manfrotto 3036 model (3035?) will get you to about 9 or 10 ft., and can be found for under $100. Another alternative is to attach a tripod head to a clamp and then find something sturdy to attach that to.
