    Ilford RAPID FIXER users

I've used Tetenal Superfix up until recently when it became difficult to find. Since then I've been using Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+9 for 4-5 minutes.
I recently processed a roll of Plus-x and it came out purple which started me worrying about the mix ratio. The bottle says 1+4 and 1+9 but the instructions only speak of 1+4 fixing times.

Anyone using this fixer here? What's your mix and time?

I believe it is meant to be used at 1+4 for film and 1+9 for paper. I fix film in it for at least 5 minutes

Ilford says 1+4 for 5 mins. I use 1-shot (don't do enough to justify bulk mix) for four 4x5's at 1+39 for 10 mins with FP4 and Acros. Estimated from Ilfords number of roles 1 liter can process. Absolutely no problems.

Let's be accurate here. Ilford's fact sheet says 2-5 minutes at 68 degrees F (20 degrees C), which is the minimum average time at one to four dilution for hand processing, with the exact time depending on the film type. The fact sheet then goes into more detail for hand agitation and for machine processing.

Thanks Colleen and Tony, actually the instruction booklet that comes with the bottle says 1+4 for 1 minute or 1/2 minute for paper. No mention of time for film. This led me to think 1+9 and 5 minutes was good. I'll go back to 1+4 and 5 minutes. Thanks.

See http://www.ilfordphoto.com/Webfiles/...7111531653.pdf for Ilford's fact sheet.

BTW, it took 2 seconds with Google to find this...

Thank you for your time Doremus. It cleared all my doubts, good info in the fact sheet.
