    Refixing finished photos?

I have some prints that were made several years ago. A few of the prints show signs of inadequate fixing. Is it possible to soak the prints and refix them? These are RC prints that were dryed in hot air dryer. Thanks for your thoughts.

You should have no trouble refixing your prints. Just soak for five minutes in water, refix in fresh fixer, wash thoroughly and dry.

However, you will likely not be able to remove the staining you speak of (if that's what "signs of inadequate fixing" means). Any silver thiosulfates left in your print that have chemically changed to insoluble compounds (silver sulfide, etc.) will not be able to be fixed and washed out. You may prevent some further degradation, but don't be surprised if there are some unseen insoluble silver compounds that later end up being visible stains.

    Thanks Doremus.
I am not trying to save the bad ones, I am making sure a the rest of this small batch get preventive care. Thanks again!

But there still might be compounds in your "good" prints that you cannot remove by refixing. These may discolor at a later date. It's certainly worth a try, however.
