I need a decent light box to view 8x10 negatives. I might also use the box to digitize the negatives using a copy stand set up.
Any recommendations?

I recently got a Porta-Trace / Gagne from B&H since they were LED and slim. The light itself is not bad but it was very disappointing in terms of build quality.
Underneath the top glass were tape removal marks. The metal pieces rounding off the edges are lose and shake. Worst of all, there are black specs underneath the top glass in the middle of the viewing area.
Purchase if you're not fussed about these and are ok about sending things back and forth. Since you seem to be from NY I guess it's not an issue. I never returned mine because I couldn't be bothered from all the way over here in Australia.
If you want to go the cheap route, I bought a used light box off Ebay for $20.00 including shipping. It measures roughly 16" x 24" if you don't mind one that large (I have seen others around that size go cheap). The funny thing about it is that mine arrived in a way oversized box with almost $20.00 worth of shipping peanuts included! Since I sell on Ebay I reused the shipping peanuts so I ended up owning the light box for almost nothing.
I've got a Seerite. I'm very happy with it.
