Doing anything with your film can lead to damage. If you need to wet mount, then I'd use an appropriate cleaner afterwards, such as Kami film cleaner, being very careful to use a good system with minimum abrasion. If done well, there should be very minimal impact. Commercial photographers from the 1990s, can tell you what happens if a a piece of film has to be drum scanned multiple times......
Personally, I no longer wet-mount film.
