    Kami Fluid alternatives?

    Dear All,
I'm planing to get the iQsmart wet mounting station, and I need some oil mounting fluids! I contacted Aztek (USA) and Kami (Germany) and both told me they cannot ship to where I live (Saudi Arabia).

I can get Lumina Fluids by Parrotcolor or Wetmounting as both offer international shipping. however, I don't know a thing about it.....while Kami is very popular and widely used.

Is Lumina good or should I look for alternatives (Heads Up will be great )

    Regards,
    Mohammed

Here are some other places to try to see if they will ship to your country:

Have you contacted Prazio to see if they have a distributor who would be willing to ship to you?

Have you called any in-country printing supply houses to see if they sell fluid?

    Good luck,
    Doug

I find lumina perfectly o.k. Slower to evaporate (not a bad thing) but still leaves a clean negative.

The problem may be that the Kami can not be shipped via air, which would limit any company from shipping it. It's worth checking with those other suppliers though, just to see. It's worth the trouble IMO if you can get it.

By the way, I switched from the Prazio light mounting oil (I got a supply when I bought the scanner) and the Kami is way, way better. It's much easier to work with, it evaporates faster and leaves the film much more clean.

Sorry I can't offer advice on the Lumina.

The last time I tried to order mounting fluid from Prazio (a couple of years ago) they said they no longer sell it. Maybe they do now?

    Both won't ship to Saudi.

    Kami is mostly naphtha.

I'm using lighter fluid and always wondered if it's necessary to clean the film after the scanning. As soon as I remove the film from the glass, the fluid dries and leave no traces....

Put a drop on a clear sheet of glass or mylar and let it evaporate. After a day or two, examine the material. Do you see a residue? If not, which is unlikely, then you're probably good to go.
