    Goerz Lynkeioskop help...

    Hello All:

I have a Goerz Lynkeioskop which appears to be in excellent condition. I am having problems, however, determining the coverage and focal length of this lens. I have done a pretty exhaustive search on the internet and have downloaded the Vade Mecum, but still can't find my answer. The specifics are:

    Serial # 17,884
    Extra-Rapid Lynkeioskop
    Serie C No. 4
    C.P. Goerz Berlin

Any help with date of manufacture, coverage and focal length will be appreciated.
PS - This is my first post here at the LF forum. I have used the forum many times in the past for answers and it has been an invaluable resource. Thanks in advance!
    -Michael.

The #4 Dagor was 240mm. They may have stayed with the same system. The Lynkeioskop is a rapid rectilinear type, yours might just cover 8 x 10. About 1890 or so. Edit - They have a reputation of being very good.

Thanks for the fast reply. 240mm would be ideal as I would like to use it on a 4x5 for portraits. It sounds like it'll be worthwhile taking the time to mount it. Cheers.

Extra Rapid Lynkeioskop. Series C. Eight sizes from 0 to 7 (36cm).
Variable F over the sizes. From F5.5 to F6.3.
Angle of view is 70 deg. (series E is 82 deg and F is 105 deg).
No. 4 is 24cm focal length. Front glass is 43mm.
    Catalogue coverage is given as:
13x18cm for wide open and 21x27cm for the smallest aperture.
These were made with Waterhouse inserts or, alternatively, iris.
Georz didn't push the sales of these much in the 1890's as they were rather busy with the Double anastigmats.
I have loaned one of these to a fellow member and he is very pleased with the results on wet plate!
They were available until at least just post WW1. Will try and check your serial number. It is early 1890's - the enormous success of series III in the 90's - gives difficulty with more precise info.

    Steven, I have a series C, No8, which is 480/6, and serial 40xxx puts it in 1897.

And there was more (second table):

That doesn't surprise me as the list of RR objective sizes available from makers drops a lot in the 20th C - at both ends! My list is from 1910.
Pricewise, in 1911, the Lynkeioscope C was 1/2 the price of the F6.8 Dagor. Size numbers and focal length are identical in most Goerz lens (normal and wide-angle)

Thanks all - this is great info. Stephane: The reference you provided is fantastic. Steven: Mine has an iris with what appears to be 13 blades.

Stephane: I came across your portrait of Anne Lena, shot with your 480mm Lynkeioskop. It's fantastic! Hope I can produce images that good with mine. If you have any more shots with the Lynkeioskop you can direct me to, please do!
