Well if you got nothing to sell…
Meh, Kodak makes a great product, but so does Ilford and Fuji. I actually now prefer their films over Kodak, especially since I can buy Delta 100 and HP5 for a fraction of what it cost me to buy Kodak.
I can tolerate some of the inevitable inflation of supplies in general. But
with the cost of 8X10 Kodak film being TRIPLE what I paid for my reserve
boxes in the freezer, I either have to shoot a lot less, or do more work in
4X5. Either way, Kodak gets less of my business. Add this to the fact that
printing papers of several types have nearly doubled recently and it dictates conservatism in shooting style. I'll bet I'm not the only person in
this boat, and that all that reluctance to shoot more will quickly affect
demand. Just hope my supply of Kodak color film holds out, and that I can
replensish affordably, a bit at a time. But more and more, I'm shooting
black and white. Got plenty of old color shots to still print anyway.
Kodak 4x5 is already to the point that I'm seriously considering just stocking up on HP5+ next time I buy film. I realize it's not a replacement for the TMY-2 I normally shoot, but for my purposes I think HP5+ would do every bit as well. I am willing to pay a bit more for Kodak in 35mm and 120 where it best suits my needs (TMZ in 120, TXT in 35mm and 120, Portra 400 and Ektar 100 in 35mm and 120) but Kodak has just about priced themselves out of the black and white sheet film market. No more than I have time to shoot I COULD shoot Kodak, but I just don't see that it's worth that much more.
Paper so far isn't really a problem for me. I can afford to buy more paper than I ever have time to print. Time, that's the problem.
