    Re: Harman Direct Positive Images

I need a little help to figure out where I went wrong. I tried using the direct positive paper tonight for the first time and it came out black but with white rebates from the film holder. I tried just exposing another sheet directly to sun light for over a minute and it was black as well, I would have expected this to be white. I definitely exposed the correct side (it had a pinkish glossy hue on the sheet I exposed to the sun) and developed for 2.5 min in fresh multigrade 1+9, with a water stop and fixed for 2 min in TF-3 1:4. Thanks!

I believe you are doing well. Which diaphragm have you used?
I suggest to expose one sheet directly to the light (out of the camera) and develop it using your normal procedure.

@Pedro_fiz the image on the left (completely black with no rebate) was just exposed to the sun outside of the camera for around a minute. It should have been way overexposed and white after developing, right?

Is your paper from a new pack, recently opened? You are correct in your assumption that the exposed areas should be white. Your paper behaves like normal photographic paper. The white rebates tend to confirm that. Is there any possibility the paper could have been confused with regular paper? If not, it must have been wrongly packaged at source.

It was the only paper I own, just received it from B&H yesterday. Thanks for your help, I've contacted Ilford to see if they have an explanation.

Then it could be a paper quality issue.
