    Re: Harman Direct Positive Images

I took my 8x10 tailboard box camera up to Madrid, NM yesterday, with some Harman DPP in film holders. I haven't worked with this paper in bright daylight in a long while, and so over-exposed these a bit.

Daft question time! When pre-flashing this paper does it matter what grade you use on the enlarger? I'm getting softer images when pre-flashing and can't work out why. Any help appreciated, thanks.
    regards, Tony

I've just used white, unfiltered light.

    Re: Harman Direct Positive Images

Anyone tried developing the Harman DPP in a Jobo with either Ilford Multigrade or PQ Universal developer?

I am going to try it when I get back home in a week, but have not found any definitive notes or comments on this so far that I could find.

I've used Harman DPP in a Jobo test print tank for 4x5 sized prints, using Ilford PQ Universal developer, diluted around 1+15. Works great.

The purpose of the preflash is to cut some of the harsh contrast, so your Harmon Directs should be softer. I'm using my Beseler color head as a white light source in my preflash.

Also read back in this thread to posts about fresher developer aiding in getting full contrast out of the paper. Joe V posted on this and some others too.

    Good luck

4x5 Speed Graphic, Ektar 127/4.7 lens. Exposure 3 seconds at f/4.7. Subject is Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter.

Photo of print taken with digital compact camera, not scanned. The border effect was due to my drying method for FB paper, which is to squeegee the print then tape face up to a sheet of glass using drafting tape, then dry in cabinet under heat lamp.
