That's a great shot Austin.
I'd guess the designer of that sailboat is rolling over in his grave, seeing what they did to his beautiful sailboat design. Adding a ton of weight that high up making a mockery of his original elegant design.
Sadly, it will never see the water again.

Thank you. It is definitely a strange beast. I'd be curious to learn its history. I believe you're right in thinking its days are done; you can't see it here, but a large part of the starboard hull has crumbled. Actually, I'm surprised the boat is still upright, as the winds here, near the mouth of the Columbia River, can be very fierce.

The vignette really adds to this image in my view, as though taken through a telescope, even the un level horizon invokes observing from the pitching deck of a ship. Very nice indeed and thanks for sharing.

With this type of luminosity distribution the composition would benefit from having the front ship in the center, rather than off to the left entering the dark[er] area.

Cool shot Austin. That doesn't look like a sailboat to me, btw. It looks like a boat that's all-engine much like a tugboat.

Thanks, Tuco. Some people have said it's a sailboat hull with a tugboat top, some kind of mutant. Honestly, I have no idea, I just thought it was interesting.

Looks like the hull and keel are purpose built to compensate for what's above deck, a small fishing trawler from the look of it, or maybe a crabber.

Typical classic wooden sailboat design, with a frankenstein built on top of it.
The keel and rudder hung that way were very common on full-keel sailboats.
The prop is missing, potentially the most expensive part of that boat at this point.
The paint shows the waterline stripe, also showing that the boat is MUCH heavier than
the originally designed sailboat. This is where anti-fouling paint was used below the waterline.
Sailboats were designed for low drag and efficiency through the water under sail, hence the smooth graceful lines
and deep draft to prevent leward slip. A powerboat is designed more for interior room, would be much wider,
and a boat this size would probably have had 2 engines.
