Finally getting the hang of it...

A former US Weather Bureau station on Block Island, RI. Built in 1902, it's now an inn.
    Sinar F1
    Super Angulon 90mm f/8
    Kodak Ektar 100

    Coast Guard Beach, Block Island
    Sinar F1
    Super Angulon 90mm f/8
    Expired Kodak Portra 160VC

I think I'm finally at the point that I can quickly and comfortable unpack and assemble the camera, compose, focus, etc. I still have some mental slip-ups, like the time I pulled the Polaroid 545 holder out of the back to take one last glance at the GG but forgot to slide the envelope of the sheet of Portra Readyload back into place first. Oops.

Thumbs up Re: Finally getting the hang of it...

The sides of the building are parallel since you correctly set up the photography. Not a sign of the sides of the building converging or diverging.

Truly great. Now come over here and help me!

Thanks Steve, the setup for the first one was actually fairly easy - I just leveled the tripod and gave the rear standard a few mm of rise, then calculated the amount of tilt on the front standard I'd need. I should probably add that buying the Manfrotto 410 geared head has significantly cut down on the time it used to take me to get the camera level and vertical lines actually vertical, definitely a huge improvement over the ballhead I was using before that.

I am going out for the first time to use a 90mm lens on my 4"x5" Speed Graphic and correct for convergence. I expect to spend a lot of time 'fiddling'!

Nice images, especially the first one. Aren't both of them a little blue though?

Hmm, perhaps. They look okay on my monitor (Apple Cinema 24" LED) but I can't say it's ever been calibrated.

Using they eye dropper in Photoshop on the top left white element of the house reads: Red 186, Green 199, Blue 210. If the house is really supposed to be white, then the RGB numbers should be closer together.

I apparently can't edit the original post, but here's a (hopefully) slightly better version of the first picture:

Indeed bluish cast. Maybe Mitch was blue at the time. Good work Mitch. I like the puffy clouds in the house shot - provides balance. Nice confrontational shot.
