Rimowa cases are waterproof to 67" (without an "O" ring, insulated against heat and cold and fully modular with none of the foam that shreds or liqufies.

The Rimowa tropicana case, while appearing to be aluminum, is actually made of marine plywood that is covered with an aluminum skin and held together with an aluminum/magnesium allot frame.

if one is looking for a Rimowa type case the basic aluminum case is normally not what is needed.

Go to http://www.zerohalliburton.com/ and look at some of their cases. They have been the standard for a very long time. Not cheap but when traveling, they sort of scream... "photo equipment.."

While Zero cases are aluminum they are neither waterproof (water resistant only due to the hinge design) nor are they insulated to protect equipment from heat and cold.

They also hold appx. 50% less equipment due to the divider/foam they use compared to Rimowa.

While Zero is better known in the US Rimowa is an accepted standard worldwide.

In case you were not aware the 100+ year old Rimowa factory in Cologne was the inventor of the aluminum suitcase in the 30s predating Zero's first aluminum cases.
