Hi,

I would like to ask you LF digital guys about aspect ratios.

During an image scan, programs like Vuescan have a box of marching ants that I usually place at the extremities of the photo. The resulting scan is not an exact ratio of the film I'm using so it may not be exactly 4x5 in size or 5x7 or 6x12 etc. It is also really difficult for me to move the edges of the box one-pixel-at-a-time.

For the purposes of loading into a web gallery I need to have folders of images that are in their correct ratio.

Is there a program in which one can select a image ratio and then it will go ahead show you the maximum area (a box of marching ants for example) available ?

Basically its a bit like having a cookie cutter above the cookie dough ... although in this case the dough wont be very much bigger than the cutter.

In PhotoShop it seems I'd need to memorise the various numbers which will be rather involved if one is using a variety of formats.

Cheers,

Steve
