    HABS/HAER digital printing

I have been shooting HABS/HAER jobs for a cultural resource management firm. I know HABS hasn't released new standards for digital printing to the public, but they are printing digitally in house. Does anyone know their standards for digital printing, paper type, printer, etc.? The firm I work with wants me to switch over from traditional B&W printing to digital. Thanks for your help, this is my first post.

Contact Robbie Shymanski here. He is a former student of mine in Chicago that has kept up with these changes.
    Thanks,

Thanks, Kirk. I think I sent Robbie a message through the forum, but I'm not sure it went through. Is there a way to contact him outside the forum, or is that considered not cool? I'm pretty new at this.

why don't you call the hab people in washington ?
they are not hard to reach and always helpful ...

i don't have their number handy, but you can call the library of congress
( number on the loc website ) and ask for the habs department ...

    good luck !

    Re: HABS/HAER digital printing

    Hi,

I just completed a 5x7 HAER on a windtunnel here in California... its not going to Washington but the specs were the same and I used the digital photo specs to create digital print cards. It was a CEQA photo mitigation so there was no NPS input but I spoke to James at HABS in the past and he clarified the requirements.

Try Googling "HABS/HAER Transmittal" for the latest (May 2010) specs. (if that doesn't work the specs and links are on my website).

The specs I used were 5-Star Epson Matte paper and a Epson 2880 on Black & White mode. I agree the best info is direct from the photographers at HABS/HAER, hope this helps...

    Hi, everyone.

Thanks for all the information. It's a good place to start. You're right, it's really no faster than traditional B&W, but it's another good tool to have. I've only done a few HABS jobs, but I'm finding that I really, really love it. You want me to shoot large format images of historic buildings and structures? And you're going to PAY me? Am I dreaming?!!
