    Durst L1200 maximum print size

I'm using a Durst L1200 w/150mm Schneider lens and I've been doing prints up to 12x16 from 4x5" negatives. I've been wanting to try some 20x24" prints to see how they look, but when I max out the adjustments on the Durst I can get the projection size to be about 18x22". The head is not all the way at the top of the column, but I've reached the limit of focus.

I also have an 80mm lens, but nothing in between. What's the best approach (other than leaving a 1" border around the print, which actually might be a good thing!)?

135mm lens, if you're willing to buy one

Do you mean that you cannot get the lens closer to the negative? If not, then a shorter lens is not going to help. Sorry I don't know the Durst. Is there a recessed lens board or a shorter cone, à la an old Omega, for use with a shorter lens?

Exactly. The lens mounting is as far up as possible because there is a stop on the adjustment bar that doesn't let it go higher. It doesn't look removable either. Perhaps I can rig up a recessed board of some kind.

In the meantime, I can live with a one inch border.

Re: Durst L1200 maximum print size

I am cursed by low ceilings in my darkroom, I loose a foot from total extension with the 1200. Bellows extension has not been an issue for me to date.

I can only make a 16x20 from a 4x5 neg with an Apo Rodagon 120 WA.
I may poke a hole in the gyprock to gain the lost foot.

The lens stage can almost touch the negative stage, if yours does not, is something blocking it?

Rough measure, I did this quickly if it can be of any help or reference.

    150mm
    27" from base board
    7 inches of bellows
    14x16 print

    120mm WA
    30" from base board
    4.5 inches of bellows
    17x23 print

    135mm
    28" from base board
    5 inches of bellows
    15x19 print

Can you shoot a pic of the bellows stage?
Sorry for the cell phone snaps of the set up.

There are recessed boards available, such as the seipla, neriotub or setopla boards. However, you shouldn't need it to focus a 150mm.

Here is a photo of the enlarger head all the way up, with minimum bellows:

The Bellows won't compress any more because this stop is on the rod, and looks like it's supposed to stay there (I can't find an easy way to get it off).

You can release the column from the baseboard and turn it to project on the floor with some counter weight on the baseboard. I have enlarged 6x12 cm panoramas to 50" with that way with the Durst 1200.

I have plenty of room to move the head up farther, but I can't focus it with the paper farther away from the lens.
