what about a cambo twr?

anyone has experience with cambo twin lens 4x5 inch(twr54)? i'd think it makes a nice camera for portraits etc, since you can see what you g et when taking the picture, but don't know much about it. camera is cheap enough but the lenses have to come in (matched?)pairs. it is of course old and quite r are and there are probably better options, but since i saw one i love it. would like opinions/ more info

Hola que tal, yo he utilizado una cambo twr54, es muy practica de usar ya que algunas veces utilizaba el respaldo de Graflex, de 6 hojas 4x5, en las cuales se podian realizar una serie de imagenes, ya que rapidamente se puede cambiar de una placa a otra, con la ventaja de la independencia de contacto ocular, con que la pelicula este cargada correctamente y lista para exponerse. I don't know about your Cambo camera, but I have considered the Gowlandflex for the same purpose. I think you would be better off with a camera like my Linhof Tech IV (with rangefinder and multi viewfinder). For much less money, consider Speed Graphic or crown graphic.

Focussing with the rangefinder and switching your eye to the viewfinder to shoot does not take much longer than using your traditional SLR. With the Gowlandoflex, I think your viewing image would still be laterally reversed, making follow focus hard. Plus I don't see how you could mount a wide angle on the Gowlandflex if you wanted. Unlike those twin lens 4x5s, press cameras need only 1 lens (and appropriate finder) which cuts down on cost, weight and bulk. Switching lenses on the linhof means I only have to replace cam, replace lens in lensboard and change multifinder -- takes 2 minutes at most. Parts and service for older Graflex or Linhofs is availible too, so you could get it worked on if needed.

Peter Gowland makes the Gowlandflex in two models, the standard and the wide angle. The wide angle handles lenses as wide as 75mm. For those who are interested, when I last visited with him two months ago he had 5 or 6 of these wide models ready to sell.
