The "flowers" nude didn't shock me because its been done before, and actually numerous times before similar to how many times such an image has been done with the cross or crucifix. In an image like this being first has some advantages. Commentary took away some for me as well.
Actually it is not about pushing anything, i am sorry.
How many "Danae and rain" paintings were done? "as everyone else"? They arent same. They are same legend, same base, different interpretation. It is not about going after shock and thrills.
Human vase, as mentioned - been done before. This particular interpretation of theme is not aesthetically pleasing to some, including me. But then i dont like german porn or Helmut Newton's work. Some do.

That's OK - this is not MOMA here, but rather a photo forum where amateurs share what they want to share of their efforts. Experimenting with different ideas may often lead into aesthetic cul-de-sacs, but I have no problem with people sincerely trying to do something different. If it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't.
Andrew's vase isn't my cup of tea in its present form, but I don't feel the need to abuse him for it. Perhaps the best course is to offer useful criticism or to say nothing at all.
I don't like nudes that look like lingerie ads from a Walmart catalogue, or tacky ads for a gentlemen's club. But I don't mention that every time I see one here...
One of my favorite things are simple, honest portraits...

Ya'll need to read up about Gustav Courbet's "origin of the world". I found it hard to read some of the comments to cosmicexplosion's post, noting that we are, after all in the 21st century.
