Tape for repair of film holders

I had an 8x10 inch holder where the tape hing had failed. I found this roll of 'spike' tape at B&H that worked very well.

    Find it here

Best part is that it is only $4.95 for 50 yards!

I use gaffers tape to reapir the hinge. It sticks well, is durable, and light tight. A bit more expensive but a $5 and up for 8X10 B&W sheet film I am not looking to save $20 on a roll of tape that can repair100's of holders.

1/2" is a bit too thin IMO to properly repair a hinge. I use 1" black gaffers tape, and it works perfect, just use an exacto to trim to an exact fit.

it has 100's of other uses too .

spike tape is the same as gaff tape but both will eventually need to be replaced when the adhesive drys out and separates from the cloth. Calumet did sell the proper (original) hinge tape on a roll up till a couple years ago.

I'll second the recommendation of bookbinder's tape. I got mine through a connection at an art store which saved me the full cost of the stuff, but it is wonderfully durable and a breeze to work with due to its bound nature. I got a 2" wide roll, and depending on the holders I am re-taping, can sometimes get two holders-worth of tape out of a single 8-inch length. Fantastic stuff.
