At last, something a little out of the ordinary!

English auction room to-day. Mixed sale with some non-LF photography items.

A home built apparatus with a long mahogany base. Including a largish photographic Petzval. It is, in fact a Dallmeyer patent (first design) Petzval. The size can be worked out (to some extent!) from only dimension given - the length of the base - at 93cm.

My measuring before the auction gave a figure which suggest a 3B, 3A or the equivalent sized D series - perhaps even a 4B! I stopped at £360 so it went for 638 usd (including fees etc.) to probably someone who will read these lines!

Not convinced this is a patent Dallmeyer?

Even a poor photo shows that the rear cell is made up of two halves and there is one of the identicator marks (3 groves) highlighted by edge flare.

    Steven,

Could the camera have been a lantern slide projector?

Perhaps - I think the auction house listed it as such. But there was no sign of a slide holder other than the rails by the condenser lens.

I continued bidding well past the "sensible" stage!!

    A rare and precious "bird".

Modern Cooke PS945 229mm f4.5. Another one that looks as if it has never been used.
German ebay 3499 € or best offer. Sold within a day or so of listing.

A couple more "Benchmarks" this weekend!

Very clean late series IIB Cooke. 15" . 2,575 usd.
    Plasticca 400mm. OK. 1,030 usd.

I have added auction house fees.

Just to set these prices in relief - a Meyer kino plasmat F2, 4.2cm lens sold for 12,232 usd at the same auction!

    I have a plasticca 280mm - a Kronar 300mm and a Kronarette 305mm

VERY different signatures... Kronarette is surprisingly sharp in the center - perfect for portraits - Plasticca much more soft and wild in the nature - Kronar is Plasticca on stereoids...
