    Dallmeyer 6D (or perhaps a 3B).

This lens has lost it's sleeve and thus it's passport (and value) - but the glass looks OK!
    430usd.
I'll get back to you when I can confirm the model.
There was also an American petzval that had these rear cell markings?

And there are post-war Cooke 2E's (well not shuttered originally!) and Universal Heliars - as well as the lenses that passed through B & J.
Of course both of you are right
My words didn't reflect what i had in mind... the words "classic" and "cheap" were left in my keyboard...

BTW, i own all of them, but the Universal Heliar (coated or uncoated, it's out of my reach!) and the Kodak Portrait.
I think i will continue to crave for a 16" Kodak Portrait in barrel, with little chances to find a reasonably priced one.
IMHO, many Kodak large format lenses are definitely overpriced.
Even an humble 8" f/7.7 is more expensive than any likely competitor, as it is the Kodak Portrait vs. the Imagon, or the Commercial Ektar vs. its Ilex copy.
    have fun

Pretty sure that was a 5D. I considered it too. Good buy at that $$ is I'm right.

Jim, he showed the circumference with a tape measure.

It was 12.4" which gives a diameter of 3.94".

Dallmeyer used to give the barrel diameter of the D's (1891) and the 5D was 3 1/4" and the 6D was 4".
But the 3A was also 4" and the barrel I cut for my 3B cells was also 4" (the "turn the front" model, which I believe is slightly larger than the sleeve/notch version)!

    I could use a 5/6 D but have a well functioning 3B already.

The info which came late in the listing (to my great regret!) , saying it had been mounted on a 11x14 Deardorf, suggests the longer focus D's. But then, not many 11x14's continued to be used for this size format!

CMM and laser interferometry. As for methodology, equipment used and results one will have to wait till I publish the paper and I'm far from done yet ;-)

    I used a much simpler method. About 3 1/4 inch across the front glass X6 = 19 1/2" which I figured a 5D. Did you buy it?

    Oh yes - couldn't resist!

If it turns out to be a 3B, I will have the problem (?) of finding someone who hasn't got a 3B already!
