    Smile Eastern Washington

    Hello,
my name is t.walter duncan, am new to the LF group, do not
remember exactly when I joined up but fairly recently.
After 40yrs as a mechanical engineer find myself out of work
so returned to school studying commercial photography.
Have been a hobby photographer since my teens so it seemed
    like a natural transition.
Purchased a Calumet 4X5 along the way and have been doing
some LF work and find the pace to be just about right for me.
Do my own B&W developing and before too long plan to have
    my own dark room.
Hope that I will be able to add value to the group. Make some
friends and participate in workshops or field trips in the Northwest
    if any ever take place

    ~t

Welcome, Walter. You have joined one of the best Internet communities anywhere. The quality of the information here is very high, and the people are among the most helpful I've ever experienced.

Welcome to group therepy, Walter. You specializing in RAIN PHOTOS??? Seems like you live in the wetest corner of the nation! But when the sun comes out it does get pretty up there!

Eastern Washington is dry and arid. Sagebrush and snakes, but it's a bit short on the prarie dogs and cactus. (Yes, there are cacti in Washington state, even in the San Juan islands.) This is where the cattle are raised, crops are farmed, and shotguns are normal in pickup trucks.

The Olympic Peninsula (western Washington) is a temperate rain forest. I'm told that it is more dense than Vietnam.

    Welcome!

I happen to be in Eastern WA at the moment (will be heading to Dry Falls on Sunday with the 8x10 -- and 5x7 if I get a lensboard made up for it tomorrow). But I live in Northern CA (SF is relatively central coastal CA to those of us in Eureka).

Vaughn, it looks like an interesting place to go, I looked it up because I hadn't heard of it before and it's in my own state. I've got my camera tuned up and the glop materials out.

No prairie dog towns unitl Idaho. Welcome Walter, I didn't know any commerical photo schools were left in this state, did you go elsewhere and then come to Eastern Washington? I lived there at one time and went to college.

Welcome, So is it warm enough for ya this year? Being a Puget Sounder, couldn't resist. You have a lot of great places to photograph, pretty much year around, winters pending accessibility and weather. Just lots of driving to get anywhere.

Note to Vick, sorry, eastern Washington is inland high plateau country with lots of sun, summer heat, and little rain, and with ots of flat in the central part of it extending into Oregon and mountains on both sides. The Cascade Mountains dividing the western third from the eastern two-thirds suck most of the rain and snow out of the weather fronts. The Rocky (Bitterroot) Mountains and the Blue Mountains define the eastern and southeastern limit of the plateau, respectively.
