Here's my latest - found 2 Graflex flashes of the famous "Star Wars" variety in one week, which I flipped on eBay for an enormous profit, enough to buy myself a new work laptop (Surface Book).

I don't know if steal is right, I was at one time, to encourage me to get into ULF, was gifted a free 11x14 holder, beautiful in perfect shape.

I very much utilized it and soon got into 14x17.

Years later I gifted the same person a very nice wooden lens board for a deardorff, which I received on a lens, but didn't need the board.

Probably the best trade I've ever made even if the trade was over 2 years in the making.

I feel I got the better end of the deal by far, but he very much loved the new lens board, so I guess it worked out for both of us.

I haven't done Ebay in years. I've got enough toys and while a bargain is tempting(and fun!) I can't think of anything that I need badly enough to add to the clutter I already have to deal with.
If I still had my truck I'd take a load to that photo swap meet in the Bay area.

Absolutely perfect Hasselblad 503cx with back and 80mm CF lens for $750 at an estate sale. Minolta 200mm f/2.8G for $400 at the same estate sale. Turned both around for a nice profit on eBay (I had enough Hasselblad stuff, and didn't need the lens).

Well, if we're talking LF, and not something that was given to me (e.g., my Leica M3 and my Hassy), then I guess it's my Wista 45DX, which I bought used on the big auction site for about 20¢ on the dollar. But I'm sure I've more than made up for it by paying too much for various & sundry other equipment/supplies. Just today I wasted hours and $$$ trying to build a sync cable that didn't work & finally gave up, ordering an overpriced Paramount cable & adapter instead.

That's how I think. It all averages out. You get a very good deal, later a lesser deal. 'Mas o menos' is often heard here.

It's like restoring an old car.

The hulk is cheap. It's all those damn little pieces that add up.

    Come si, come sa.
