    Optimum Scanning Resolution

I posted this question earlier yet I think the post did not make it. I am having my 8"x20" black and white negatives drum scanned for output on an Epson 3880. This allows me to increase the contrast for Platinum Palladium. The big question is what is the optimum resolution on the drum scanner? I had two images scanned at 780 dpi. The scan looks good. I printed an 8"x20" negative on the Epson yet my vacuum frame has not arrived yet so the results cannot be evaluated right now. The drum scanner operator is thinking that I need to double the resolution. Not sure if that is really necessary. I am outputting 16 bit at 2880 on the Epson. Anyone out there doing this same workflow?
