    The day I took this picture, the Palouse Prairie Foundation was at the site doing plant ID and removing invasives, of which there are plenty. Mostly Eurasian steppe species, as I understand, like the majority of noxious weeds in the area.

    In the foreground of the picture above, near the base of the gravestone, you can see non-native roses that were either planted intentionally or propagated from flowers left on graves. There's also lilac and iris believed to be introduced by pioneer families to decorate the grave areas. The Prairie Foundation is apparently negotiating with the families to see if there's a way to remove at least some of them.

    As you can guess, I find this all fascinating, even though I don't know much about it yet.
