Can Somebody Tell Me Why This One?

I thought I knew a few things about old Voigtlander lenses and I scratch my head by this:

Somebody, a few of them, knew more than I do.

Maybe it's one of those Jim Galli used and sold here. Jim, we need to recalculate your net worth based on new market conditions.

I thought this is a very laughable matter, a malicious joke

It's possible he's thinking of upgrading.

I wondered too - maybe because of a very low serial number?

I know, I was wanting that lens too. For about 1/10 of the final price....

It's just an nice, very early petzval, from the company that first started making J. Petzval's design. Voigtlanders are great, but a quarterplate lens for that much?

This has been seen before - there are some very competitive Voigtländer collectors and the bidding pattern seems to suggest a bit of teasing between the two. The seller must have had his life's biggest surprise. There was no real information about the optical condition, of course, so the buyer may in for an unpleasant shock. What does the seller do if the winner says "sorry, but as a single of the rear pair is missing, I wish to return the item" - there was no "as is" note?

i asked. he replied there was glass on both ends.

i was interested in the lens as it has an early serial number and was made in wein.

but now it looks like i will be offering my BIGGER voigtlander serial number 59xx BIN or best offer and see what i can get.....if it is close i will sell it. if not i will wait a few more weeks till it is.... it should not take long.

With that serial number, you can be certain it originally sat on a 1/4 plate Dag camera, making it a "must-have" for a dag camera owner. Additionally, it would be at home on an American or European Dag Camera - making it a "2-fer."

    Go to this link http://www.apug.org/forums/forum127/...mera-lens.html

for Voigtlander Petzval with serial # 439 ! I bet it would sell for $ 5K to $ 10K. Not too many 3 digit ones floating around...
