A single meniscus lens seems to lay down image points with a surprisingly sharp core surrounded by fuzz. Those fuzzy rays look to be a combination of spherical aberration, coma, skew ray flare and who knows what else. There is actually not a vast quantity of light going out of control and the dark details of the picture hold together quite well. But specular highlights are very bright and the "flare" goes crazy.
