Thanks jp. Yes, I'm definitely making some contact prints. I've never actually printed any SF negatives yet if I am remembering correctly.
One more. My struggle here is focus. Difficult to see, more-so than I am used to on the Linhof's screen. And where to place it...
I like the previous one better. It's simpler and that better suits soft focus.
At the ice pond on Seguinland Road, Georgetown Maine a week or so ago. I get called to do some work in Georgetown once in a while and always bring cameras. It was an epic place of beauty and challenges for famous photographers a hundred years ago and remains so today. (This is across the street from F. Bryan - This is really nice. I've long been skeptical of soft focus for landscape. But you are helping to wear away my doubts. The mood here is very nice. But what wins me over is the gesture of the black tree. That seems to lend an energy which is a nice counterpoint to the more static, quiet mood of the overall view. Made a lens board for my 5x7 Linhof so I could use my 8 1/4 Verito. On 4x5 it's too long for me, and on 8x10 it goes super swirly outside of its sweet-spot, so 5x7 was a natural fit. Shot a few sheets this past evening out in one of my favorite forested areas, here's my favorite.

William, thank you for your comments. You describe exactly what I was going for with the darker tree, which is why I placed it in a low zone that I wanted to go black.
This negative is on top of the pile to work on tonight. Haven't printed any SF images in the darkroom yet, so it'll be my first.
Made some contact prints of that image. I used some matte Ilford fiber paper, and then out of curiosity, tried a print using textured ART 300 paper to see how the texture would interact with the soft-focus. I find it very interesting, and accentuates the abstractness of the form. Probably not everyone's cup of tea. While it's not the same as actual prints, here is scans of the matte and ART 300 prints:
The Art 300 looks a bit like bromoil.
I like that photo, and I like art 300. It's hard to scan, so I won't take that as an accurate representation. It's a nice warm color and the texture is interesting.... Sort of like automotive sandpaper but not matte.
