I really like this one Daniel. The patterns are fantastic and the light is very nice as well. It has a pronounced three dimensional quality too it also. Nice one!

    Re: Abstracts

I was going through some pictures from a couple of years back, and decided that this worked better as a square crop.

    Where are we going?
And why are we in this handbasket?

Again, not really abstract, but as the focus is on form, I'll stick it here. When I saw this, it reminded me of those "ambiguous images" one learns about in psychology class. You know, the "Is it a duck or a rabbit?" sort of thing. Plus I thought the missing shrub was a pretty good metaphor for death.

And on that note, have a great day everybody!

I agree with you there, Austin. Ironically, the trees on either side of the hole see it as an opportunity.

Make of that what you will.

    Nathan,

could you post a photo of your microscope setup? I've seen setups with Nikons, Canons, Leica's, etc., but not a 4x5 before, much less MF rollfilm!

I like the shot btw !

Dan, This image was taken at one of the microfabrication companies I consult with. 4X5 photo attachments were common in previous years but now most such camera attachments are digital.
I don't have an image of the exact setup I used (about Oct 2013) but I've borrowed a similar setup from one advertised on ebay (sorry poor quality).

The microscope is a Nikon Optiphot with brightfield illumination. The optical post coming out of the top of the scope shows 2 Nikon 35mm cameras (crazy) that I replaced with the large cone shaped 4X5 back shown at the left of the scope. A polaroid back is shown but I used a standard film holder with the 64T film. The 4X5 back has an integral shutter mechanism which is controlled by a UFX controller (not shown). The scope shown is not equipped with Nomarski objectives but the wollaston prisms go at the top of the objectives and are adjustable. Also not shown would be a prepolariser and an analyzer which go in the brightfield path. That's about it - almost an antique - but capable of some stunning high res images not limited by a crummy TV sensor. BTW all the microscopes you mention were at one time equipped with 4X5 capability and I've used all in the past including Reichert, Leitz, Zeiss (optically the best), Nikon and Olympus. Never saw a medium format setup though. Running through ebay you'll find most of these type microscopes with various photo attachments.

Another nice one. I like the shadow interplay. It goes well with your image posted in Just Leaves.
