The small Logan lightpads are cheap and functional and very slim and lightweight if you need to carry one around with you in a portfolio or briefcase. I have one in 8x10". They are cheap enough that you could even use them as frames (or mounted inside a nicer frame) for exhibition purposes.

B&H Photo here in New York has lots of them set up side-by-side, so when I bought the Logan I checked out several of the others, and I was very impressed by the small Cabin lightboxes. They are more expensive and not quite as portable, but also considerably brighter (may or may not be an advantage, e.g., if you are submitting to a magazine and the editor's lightbox is not as bright).

if you are a professional you need to make sure you are using the standards for brightness and color correctness. I use the Acculite versions. the Just Normlicht lightboxes have nicer design and better eveness all the way across.

Planistar (not sold in the U.S.) are excellent. They have a unique method of spreading the light across the screen without putting lamps directly under the screen. This results in a very thin box.

It is solid, well designed and well made.

Agreed that Just Normlicht is outstanding. I was shopping for something more portable.

I like the Hakuba brand. I purchased mine in lieu of a Cabin. I liked the Cabin as well, but the Hakuba just seemed right for me.
