Science of B&W Printing and Halftones?

Does anyone know of a science of black and white printing book that would include half-tone technology?

Hi Neil, I was a Graphic Arts Cameraman for many years and have made thousands of halftones. The last 17 years I taught Graphic Arts and this was the last text we used.

Are you interested in historical photo-mechanical methods (process cameras) or the computer science behind the rip's that are making halftones on imagesetters and direct to plate equipment?

Inkjets use weaving for printing which is kind of like half-toning. More info here at GutenPrint. This is the printing engine behind QuadtoneRIP- a very commonly used B/W printing RIP.
