To link to an image that is already hosted elsewhere:

Click on "Insert Image" button
Click on "From URL" tab. (Not "From Computer")
Provide URL of image file.
De-select "Retrieve remote file and reference locally".

Then your image will appear in the page, not as an attachment.

Tried a Drum scan of 4x 50mm x 125mm slices from a 5x7 negative @ 6000dpi, when stitched in CS6 it gave a 2.98GB Tiff. Had to reduce it down to work on it.
