So a month or two ago I bought the lens pictured below. It is, hands down, the most damaged lens I have ever encountered. The entire front element is cracked through, as though someone boiled it in a pan and then dropped it into some ice water. The rear element is not cracked but is abraded and discolored. I had no idea what to expect, but I just had to shoot with it to see what I would get. Turns out it makes a nice little pictorial lens on 4x5. It will cover 8x10, so I'll have to try that next.

And here's a different take from the same spot with a more intact optic.

Incredible.
It is a very nice image too, something I would have liked to take.
Jonathan,
It's kind of a shame you posted a picture of that (beautiful!) lens.
You could have used that lens to win beer of of just about anybody:
"Heck, lenses don't mean nothin.' Why, I bet I could take a fine picture with this one right here."
If Jim Galli hasn't already made an offer on this, let me know if you decide to sell it.
(Price adjusted for the condition of the lens, of course.)

Vincent,
I think if Jim were selling this lens he would manage to talk up the many 'improvements' that time and its previous owners have wrought and ask a premium for it!
I hope to take it back out in the next few days to see what other surprises it has in store. It may be a one trick pony, but at least it's a pretty neat trick.
