Derth of 180mm wide angle lenses (8x10)???

I suspect this topic has been discussed before but, what's the deal. 90mm is one of the most popular wide angle sizes for 4x5, yet I have never seen a 180mm that covers 8x10.

What the SA 90mm for 4x5" is the SA 165mm for 8x10" to me. A little bit shorter but no much difference.

Yep. It's a "hole". I've asked the same question and investigated it. There are some Dagors that "cover", but I wouldn't call it that except for the "180mm" f/9 Zeiss Dagor - I'm reasonably sure they made them in this FL. A "180mm" f/9 Zeiss Dagor will probably be the best bet in the exact focal length.

Otherwise I think you're looking at a 165mm WA Dagor or a 150mm Schneider Super Symmar XL.

I use a 165mm Schneider, but I do have a Fujinon W 180 mm f/5.6 that just barely covers 8x10 if the lens is dead center. It's image circle on the technical level is actually too small to cover 8x10 by @ 7 mm.

Never seen one either but Hugo Meyer Gorlitz made a 7" f9 (177mm) Wide Angle Aristostigmat for 8x10
These lenses are rare and i am lucky to have the 7 7/8" which cover 10x12
Check the Camera Eccentric's Hugo Meyer Goerlitz catalogue from 1936 Good reading.

Lots of 183mm Series V Protar's around. They're hard to use at f18 largest aperture but easy to back pack. I found a coated one in a Kodak shutter last year. It's a keeper.

Re: Derth of 180mm wide angle lenses (8x10)???

I have a rather odd solution; a mismatched Computar. The front element of a 210mm f9 Computar and the rear element of a 150mm f9 Computar (or is it the other way around? I can't remember) make a 180mm lens with a bit of movement to spare on 8x10. So when I need it I just swap elements. It is as sharp as I need for 8x10 contact prints, and is quite small. On the other hand, I also have a 183mm Series V protar, which will cover 11x14 with movement but is, as Jim notes, a bit dim...

This lens makes a good candidate for those who wish to shoot 4x10 on their 8x10 cameras (with a splitter board, or with a 4x10 reducing back). Sharp, often quite cheap and easily available, and enough coverage to give decent movements.

For full 8x10, there seem to be surprisingly few options in that focal length.

The 'marketing equivalent' of the 90mm in 8x10 is perhaps the 240mm. I see a lot of 240mm lenses in Copal #3 that cover 8x10 for very reasonable money (and I'm going to get one)
