355 G-Claron direct fit to Copal 3 shutter?

I'm exploring my options for lightening/compacting my lenses. I'd like to know if a G-Claron 355mm in barrel will screw directly into any Copal 3 shutter without adapters or spacers etc..

    Thanks
    Ed

As far as I know, yes. (other than Copal S 3)

Many Copal 3s shutters are NOT labled as such. I got fooled twice that way.

    What makes a Copal 3s (or S 3) different from a standard Copal 3?

The Copal 3S is a little bit smaller. As you can see here.

    Well, OK
I'm either reading S.K.'s data wrong or there seem to be some discrepancies. I suppose ultimately the size of the mounting threads and required lensboard hole should tell all.

The Copal 3 I have in my hand has a 61mm mount thread and requires a 64mm plus clearance lensboard hole. It isn't marked 3S anywhere. According to S.K. Grimes on both their chart and drawing this is a 3S.

I guess I'll try just a little bit harder.

    Thanks Guys for the input,
    Ed

I am not sure if you saw this thread of not:

In the last post, Ole indicates that some of these 355mm G-Claron's are threaded for the compound 3 shutter.

I have the 355mm G-Claron Repro and it is a direct fil in a compound #3 shutter.

Re: 355 G-Claron direct fit to Copal 3 shutter?

I recently asked Lens to Shutter the same question (mounting an Apo Ronar, and Artar or a G Claron into a shutter as there was a good deal on one of each on The Evil at that time). I ended up buying a Red Dot Artar in a shutter, but here is the reply.

    "Hello Allen:

....... If that is the focal length you are looking for than may I suggest a 355mm G-Claron. A truly wonderful lens with huge coverage............it is a direct screw into fit in a Copal 3 shutter......"

I would think from that reply that setting the aperture scale would be the bigger task than the mounting.

No I didn't. That's very informative. Even If I had the correct Copal 3 shutter it would then become an issue of trying to ascertain the thread on the G-Claron 355. I guess if I want a G-Claron 355 the easy thing to do is to shop for one in shutter, although they seem to have gotten quite popular recently.

The main specifications for a shutter are the front to iris distance and the threads for front and rear cells. Also the maximum opening, from this depends the biggest f-stop.

The Copal #3 is compatible with the Compur #3, but as mentioned before the Copal #3s is smaller

Also the Copal #3 shown on Schneider's website is a Copal #3s. The specifications can be downloaded from Schneider's german website. Copal seems confused too, the title says "Copal No. 3" but in the drawings "Copal-No.3S". The Super-Symmar-XL-Asperic is an example for a lens mounted in a Copal #3.
