    Beautiful, Andrew.

Emil, these are great. I am daunted by the labor intensity. How long does it take to make such a bromoil print? Thanks...

    thanks Mark.
The time for making these bromoils vary a lot.
but the inking of these two took about 1,5 hours of continous work. Before that I have to apply the emulsion - let it dry - do it again - and then bleach/rinse/re-fix/rinse and dry, which also takes hours...

So all in all it recembles "real" oilpainting a lot....

One of these days I will challenge myself with the bromoil process. I enjoy the results you achieve - the results you get are very creative imo.

Beautiful print Erik. How do you like the Cranes? Do you have to acid treat it?

    Thanks Colin,

I'm not too big a fan of Cranes Cover, I just happen to have a lot of it It is fragile after prolonged wet time compared to say Platine or BFK or Stonehenge. It tears very easily after it is saturated but it does have a nice smooth surface that holds detail well. I can get away using it
in pt/pd but not in say kallitype where the wet time is much longer. It has kind of a yellowish tint to it which works Ok for some images. I do treat it with ox acid as a matter of course as I do all my papers just to avoid any clearing issues but I haven't tried it without the acid treatment.
    regards

    Hi Erik,
Could you explain how you carry out the acid treatment. I have tried Cyanotypes and wondered if this would help in this process and the Gum Bichromate process as well.
    Thanks,
    Pete.

    Hi Pete,
I make a 3-5% solution of oxallic acid and soak my paper for a few minutes and let dry before I coat my sensitizer. Some people brush on the acid solution just prior to coating. I don't know what effect it will have with cyanotype, but I don't think it will serve a useful purpose for gum printing.
    Regards
    Erik

    Pete,

I don't know about cyanotype but I have been doing a lot of gum printing lately on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Press, a buffered paper. I don't have to do anything to the paper if all I am doing is gum dichromate but when I am doing gum over platinum I need to acidify the paper in 8% oxalic acid for several minutes (~ 8 minutes) or the platinum will not print correctly. When using this paper with gum only I can print several layers without shrinking or sizing - I have had no problems with shrinking or pigment staining.
